In 1901, Leonard Maggiore Sr. arrived at Ellis Island from Sicily. By 1936 he had his own optical practice in Bushwick, Brooklyn known as Leonard Maggiore Opticians. Leonard Maggiore Jr. followed his father’s footsteps and continued the optical practice. He then invented the prescription dive mask in 1959 with his own proprietary method. This was when Leonard Maggiore Opticians became the optician for divers (and later on for many other sport enthusiasts). His son Gregory Maggiore began to work with his father in 1969. Together they have crafted over 47,000 custom made prescription dive masks. Gregory is a licensed New York State Optician like his father and grandfather. He has maintained his New York State Ophthalmic Dispensing License even though he has relocated the business to Kansas.
